If you were one of the thousands of people who ordered Snow Leopard from the Apple Online Store and have been waiting patiently for your copy of the newly released OS X update to arrive today, you might be out of luck.

The OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date program promised users who bought a qualifying Mac or Xserve on or after June 8th of this year an automatic upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard for only $9.95.

While not exempt from Apple's advertising, the Up-to-Date versions did not qualify for a delivery date of today. Only the full retail versions were overnight shipped to customers. Up-to-Date customers can look forward to receiving their copies of Snow Leopard in early September.

As to be expected, customers who purchased new qualifying machines are not happy about not being able to run the new OS this weekend.

Apple updated the product availability to September 2009 on their website:

Mac OS X Snow Leopard refines the elegant Mac OS X user experience with lots of little touches and performance improvements that will make using your Mac even more enjoyable. It also includes a few big foundation technologies designed to tap the power of today’s computer hardware and provide a strong base for innovation. If you’ve purchased a qualifying computer or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $9.95.*

Expected Product Availability: September 2009

UPDATE: The Up-to-Date version of Snow Leopard is non-refundable

Wait, so if I bought my MacBook Pro in July I get a $9 upgrade? How do I claim this or get my lost cost upgrade. I ordered one from Amazon.com but I will return it if this deal qualifies for me.

Well, I ordered Wednesday and it still hasn't shipped. I know I was 2 hours past the 11 a.m. deadline, but come on. I expected them to at least ship it by today. WTF. InDesign and Phtoshop CS3 will probably fail on it too and I'll have to go back to Leopard. I'm more pissed at Adobe for that one. They said they are not going to even test it because it is too old. I spent $5,000 on it one and a half years ago for my small business and now they say it is too old to keep it working. There are fewer and fewer reasons I have to tell people why I like Apple and Adobe better than Microsoft.

Well, I'm offshore so it does not matter when I get mine as long as it is home before I get home on the 9th. I just looked at the order status and mine shipped today so I should be good.

No wonder mine isn't here yet and I paid £29(however it is here in UK). I get my money back after I fill in some forms! Mines been shipped but it's not here yet, I was looking forward to it.

whenever i check the status of my purchase it tells me its back ordered, i can wait, well i have to wait or i can make a 2 hour drive to the closest apple store and get it. skip that ish ill just wait and curse the sky

u make it sound like september is so far away, i order mine on amazon for $25 it wont be here till next week but thats alright

oh yeah amazon has it for $25, so if u like to save an extra $4 and can wait till next week go with them.

Well its not a problem if you are expecting it, but to advertise one thing and then do another, that's the issue

In Mexico, they started shipping pre-orders at midnight on August 28th.

I'm expecting my package delivered by September 4th. Oh well. I can wait.
