Confirmed: $29 Snow Leopard disc updates ALL Intel Macs

Well, Walt Mossbaum has confirmed it ... the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade disc will load on any Intel Mac, even those running Tiger.
It was obviously merely an helpful suggestion from Apple that Tiger users should purchase the box set - which includes the upgrade, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, a corkscrew, a magnifying glass, novelty underwear and Keynote - so hopefully we'll see broader adoption of the upgrade across the entire Intel product range.
Seriously, Mossbaum's article doesn't make it clear whether the licensing of the box set differs from that of the upgrade, so I wouldn't advocate that Tiger users treat this news as gospel. Hopefully, Apple will make the policy clear in the days and weeks to come.Last edited by Paul Daniel Ash; 08-27-2009 at 02:08 PM.

I've heard from a few places it'll do a clean install on a new drive or a formatted one as well. I wouldn't do that because that's clearly not the intent of the new version. But I think it's kinda lame to pay for a bunch of rewritten code that speeds up the system and does a bit to improve the user interface. I know it's alot of work, and I ordered a copy for myself, but I'm used to service pack in Windows that do this very thing, but maybe not going as deep into the code. Nice to see that OS X is finally getting real 64 bit support, kinda late to the party though. And yes, I'm buying Windows 7 and it kicks a whole lot of *** compared to Vista. I would highly recommend trying it before bashing it as 'just Vista with a few tweaks' or whatever it is that most people say. I got at least a 30% performance boost and $55 for that is well worth it to me, being only 24 dollars more than Snow Leopard and doing the exact same improvements.
