Turn Macbook into Desktop with BookArc [Flaming poetic_folly Inside!]

Just released, the brilliant BookArc turns your Macbook or Macbook Pro (all models from the Macbook Air to the 17" Macbook Pro) into a swift looking desktop -- well, it stands it up in a neat artsy fashion on your desk at least.
Priced at $49 this accessory is a very simple idea which surprisingly no one has managed to think of before. All it does is provides a nice resting place for your Apple laptop to stand vertically in while operating in clamshell mode. They even claim that this will improve performance for those of us already using our Macbooks with external monitors:
I feel obligated to point out that they are forgetting a major downside with that whole "improved performance" bit. Heat. Apple laptops notoriously get hotter in clamshell mode which in turn reduces performance. Consequently my Macbook Pro lives on a Targus Chill Mat for Mac. Maybe standing vertically instead of sitting on a desk helps negate that clamshell mode heat issue?Along with a stunning design and improved ergonomics, BookArc can actually boost the performance of your laptop. When your MacBook is running closed in the BookArc, your machine will automatically dedicate 100% of its video memory to the external display - instead of splitting it with the internal display. You’ll enjoy a noticeable speed increase when working in Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and other graphics-intensive applications. So can a notebook stand really speed up your MacBook? If it’s a BookArc, the answer is yes.
Regardless of the performance gains and detriments this sexy stand might give some people's abandoned Macbooks and Macbook Pros new life as an awesome desktop computer. Hell, I'm even considering picking one up and abandoning one of my favorite toys, the chill mat. BookArc is just plain sexy. Are you reading this Kyle (poetic_folly)?

Looks gay hahahah!
but anyway... tell me again how I'd use this with my 17" or my macair?
so I turn on the laptop and close it down, and continue using it... won't my laptop go to sleep when I close it?

I tried to mount my monitor to my wall and failed, lol. My mac has all the hookups yet I still run it in Laptop mode.
Also, does that chill mat actually make a worthwhile difference in temp? I think I might need to pick up one of those...

Sure it's a good idea and looks nice but $49 for a bit of passive bent metal/plastic? The manufactured unit cost and going to be less than $5! I guess many people won't care but still...
