Mac's might be a little pricey, but they are definitely worth it .
Recently bought a MacBook Pro, and it is by far the quickest and easiest laptop to use compared to my old Toshiba.

Updated my MacBook via "Software Update" and it took exactly 20 minutes from clicking "Install" to being usable again (I did already have Safari 4.0.2 though).
Interestingly my free space increased from 14.81Gb to 14.99. After running Monolingual this improved slightly to 15.07.
