Mac Mini (2009) Released + Disassembled

The Apple desktop in the most need of an upgrade got it yesterday when Apple announced the new Mac Mini. This version of the Mac Mini looks very much like its predecessor with the noticeable exterior differences being the aluminum housing, 5 usb ports instead of four, a nice Firewire 800 port, and both Mini DisplayPort and mini-DV outputs (allowing dual display support). Bigger upgrades are seen inside with the addition of an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (as seen in the newest Macbooks) which should give the new mini substantially better graphics capabilities than the old mini.
The new Mac Mini comes in two base models which are virtually the same with a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and only vary in hard drive space (120GB vs 320GB) and RAM (1GB vs 2GB). Both can be purchased with a processor boost up to a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo for $150. If you are thinking about buying the base model and upgrading the ram/hard drives be warned: the Mac Mini is very difficult and unfriendly to take apart for upgrades.

The folks at mini colocation and iFixit got their hands on the new Mac Mini and have posted some great photos of unboxing and disassembly:

I don't get why people keep saying "the NEW aluminum housing".... the Mac Mini has had an aluminum casing for years...
