New iMac (2009) Released, Unboxed, and Disassembled

We have been waiting on this new iMac for months and yesterday Apple announced some updates to it. While visually it looks the same as the previous generation the processor has received a minor update with a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo available and the graphics have been updated to NVIDIA architecture with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB. These minor upgrades do not lend to a major performance bump for processor performance but the NVIDIA graphics should give a nice boost for gfx performance.
Other Updates include the FireWire 400 being replaced by an extra USB (booooo) and a ridiculous keyboard. Where did the number pad go? Stupid or smart take our poll!
Pricing is around the same as the old version and you have four basic configurations which you can add features to when purchasing.

Engadget and iFixit got their hands on a couple new iMacs and have provided a ton of nice pictures of the exterior/interior:

When are they going to stop beating around the bush and make one of these touch screen? They cant claim that they don't have the technology to do so, and with the price they are charging...well, they ought to already be outfitted with it. I would use that for virtually everything (except gaming).

Glad I bought mine a little while ago... would not want the keyboard any smaller! What in the world are they thinking of? And take away Firewire to replace it with another usb?
I love my IMac..... bought it right before my neck surgery got to try it out for a couple of weeks and can't get on it yet due to my neck....
( But someday when my neck can handle setting at it I will enjoy it! Pricey yes! But worth it? If I could have got it cheaper I would have... but would buy one again.....
I bought my Macbook also right before my surgery.... thank god I have this or no computer experience for me.... and love it as well..... matter of fact I never thought I would enjoy a laptop as much as I am....
Love my Apple products!

I think everyone is misunderstanding. This new keyboard is optional! And besides it's not "new" either, its just the wireless version, with a usb wire.
If you actually go on their site to buy the machine, under the configuration, you can choose "apple keyboard with numeric keypad"...

Well if the keyboard is only the laptop size its not so bad, but it does seem pricey. We could get the new macbooks for similar prices. On a brighter note... i am digging the hard drive size and pre-installed ram. SWEET!!!

i am soooo happy i bought the 20" 2.66 last month. i still get the dedicated ATI HD 2600 Pro. the 2 low end models with intergrated graphics are a joke. when the benchmarks come out and show the mid range systems from last year outperform the mid range systems from this year, people should be outraged.

Every 1 is freaking out seeing that new keyboard.
Secondly, how many people ACTUALLY? use the firewire?? If we take a poll you will find out.
And another thing, you guys really think apple is THAT stupid to take out a firewire? Guess what they didnt, and if they did the adapted is around $9-10.
More people have a need for USB then firewire..
Think about it..Last edited by eZStaR; 06-30-2009 at 09:14 AM.
