New 17" Macbook Pro Disassembled = One Huge Battery

Click the image to open in full size.

The folks at iFixit got their hands on one of the brand new 17" Macbook Pros which were announced at Macworld earlier this year. As always, iFixit ripped it apart quick and to account of the components for all to see.

Result: The battery in this new Macbook Pro is huge weighing in at a whopping 1.5 lbs with a capacity of 12,820 mAh. It is similar in design to the Macbook Air's battery and is held in place by some little screws. While replacing the battery yourself is not something Apple will condone (they want $179 + tax) the procedure appears to be simple enough and places like iFixit will be selling the batteries sometime in the near future.

Now the only questions left are whether or not the battery life will meet the 8 hour expectation and live for 1000 cycles.

Another scheme for Apple to make a little extra cash. What a shocker!

iPhone GPS app I believe. I think he posted in the wrong thread.

Either way - $179+ tax + the battery cost to replace it?! Apple's business model is pure genius.
