Is Apple Testing a Netbook Perhaps?

A nameless search engine company revealed to the New York Times that they spotted Web visits from an unannounced Apple product with a display somewhere between an iPhone and a MacBook. Could it possibly some sort of tablet or netbook?
During a conference call on Tuesday Steve Jobs did comment on the possibility of some sort of Apple network in the future. First Jobs said that the mini-notebooks represent a "nascent market" and Apple would wait and see what that market did before entering it.
Later during the question and answer section of the call Jobs commented further about netbooks saying that the iPhone already handles that market segment well. He then went further to say that Apple "had some pretty interesting" ideas for that market segment but didn't comment further.
Could this mysterious product surfing the internet be some prototype for a netbook? Only Apple knows but there is definitely something there in the secret recesses of Apple.

I think a tablet is something apple is way behind in for it's new-best demographic: college students. I find it awkward bringing my macbook pro to class with me since most of my lectures are in powerpoint format and I usually need to add diagrams to my notes. So I usually just print out my notes on paper and look on in envy at people with wintel tablets who can draw right on their screen. In my opinion tablet is superior to a notebook computer in both taking notes and reading them since it literally resembles a book!

can you imagine trying to type fast with no buttons? that would suck, but a cool idea definitely, i doubt apple would just make it a "tablet" i'm sure it will have someo sort of crazy innovation on it.
if this post help click the thanks

While I would love to see an Apple tablet, I hope this one isn't it. Well, at least not if you only have an onscreen touch type keyboard. The utility I find in tablets (and I am required t use one for notes in school) is the ability to draw, write etc. with a pen-type stylus. This thing looks like an oversized iPhone. I know that means little to nothing at this point in the game if this is even real since it will (hopefully) have some sort of pen input ability.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

Welcome to the internet....
I agree, it could easily be a hackintosh or a tablet pc or small laptop (such as the Eee) running osX86.
Well nobody is suggesting that the photo is real - its a concept drawing of someone's own vision for the Apple tablet of the future. It's also been posted here before, back when the 'brick' controversy started (before anyone knew about the unibody stuff)Comprehensive iPhone 2.1 FAQ:

I would love for something like this to come out, i know the technology is there bc if they can shuv 16gb -32gb in a 5inch device they can do a whole lot with a 10" -15" wide, and i could see apple coming out with it to give the new HP Touch a run for its money (which i played with at BestBuy the other day and its not to bad)
Got my fingers crossed//

That's a good point, going to college next year that is a feature I really want now! Thanks for ruining my day.

Really? I am too lazy to read the real artical but to me it seems as they are suggesting that a product like the mockup pictured exists, something inbetween the iPhone and MB. IDK how a search engine company could tell you that some mockup exists, they could tell you that some device running a variant of OS X with a screen resolution between the iPhone and MB is surfing their site though.

im sure the actual finished product will look 20 times better then that pic.
but im gunna start saving up now.. apple needs to upgrade their mac pros and release these gadgets at the same time. i'd probably drop over $4000 that day.
i just wonder how much these things will cost. they can probably make 'em for less then $500 or so.. i also wonder if apple will create a network so that they dont have to go to at&t for an on-the-go-connection.. i hope to god they do. it's gotta be better then at&t's and the iphone could one day benefit from it. apple could easily monopolize the wireless network market.

The larger device would most likely rely on Wi-Fi, the same way that the iPod Touch does.
And again, the article doesn't even have that picture - or any pictures. The picture was just added to the MMi news post for emphasis. It's a concept drawing.Comprehensive iPhone 2.1 FAQ:

first of all, uber cool. and ya i bet apple has one in the works and is trying to throw us off its scent by saying the iphone already handles that market segment. imagine the market share they would have after releasing this. students would eat it up, you'd see one in every classroom. even tech-savvy profs would have it.
secondly, can i get one with windows?!?
(no seriously, can i?

thats pretty cool. i wouldnt be happy with another device w/o buttons though lol. if it had a hidden keyboard sliding type of feature for those who needed to type fast, that would be cool. nice design though.
