Macs Rise to 8% Market Share

Apple's consistent growth in the computer market has continued rising to 8.2% in a survey taken by hitslink.com. Add in the iPhone and Apple has a solid 8.55% share for web browsing. Basically Apple has gained 3% market share in the last 2 years.
This is a new high for Apple in the last decade and shows that although the economy seems to be having troubles and Apple share prices fell significantly last week. The high September 08 mac usage numbers that put Apple up over 8% are probably due to student back to school sales; a traditionally high selling period for Apple.
The survey was done by monitoring the traffic for 40,000 sites. When you access a site with your computer your OS version is collected telling them wether you are using windows, OS X, or Linux. After that it is a simple matter of adding up the numbers to see the percentages of operating systems on the internet accessing the sites.
While the survey doesn't count computers that are not internet active along with computers that didn't access one of those 40,000 sites you can probably take those numbers as a pretty accurate count.
Apple ftw

but those are stats for the safari browser, which has nothing to do with the OS (safari runs on mac AND windows!)

It notes down the operating system that safari is running on aswell. You know, the way this thing works: <a href="http://www.dealighted.com"><img src="http://www.danasoft.com/sig/94655.jpg" border="0"></a><div style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px;">
Edit: The statistics are still misleading.Last edited by 461am; 10-02-2008 at 04:06 PM.

This photo and article is kind of misleading, although I understand its point. Apple is doing terribly in comparison to microsoft, google, and other tech shares despite the iphone and other stuff... over the last two years that is.... Its shares have almost cut completely in half these last two years with their frankly overpriced, but relatively good quality products in a market place that is not really healthy enough for apple at the moment, but it'll pick up eventually.

Theres no point arguing, the whole annoying Mac vs. PC fight could go on for a long *** time. Let the child laugh.
Although I must admit it isn't too smart insulting Macs on a site about iPhone and Mac stuff...

10-02-2008, 05:31 PM #8Lol you have 6 PC's probably because they keep crashing. I will stick to my 1 macbook that probably runs cleaner then all 6 of your PC's thank you very much :P. And whenever it comes time to sell, it will still be at a higher value than a PC to sell.So Apple thing they are good where PCs are over 91%. HAHAHAHA

Apple FTW!

Apple's market share will never increase until the company can attract the right industries and that will not happen until software companies are willing to develop programs which will run on Mac and prove to be superior to the PC. Only reason Mac has gotten this far is because of special design programs which have been created and made a hole new market for this OS.
Apple's stock will discount further, this company's earnings can not be sustained. It's just a matter of fact. Over the summer I did an analysis on Apple and found that it's main revenue stream was deferred revenue not actual revenue which can not be sustained over a period of time. Also it was clear that the stock was overvalued.
With the economy and the stock market going down the drain I think it would be a good idea to buy Apple's stock a few months down the road when it's discounted to the right amount. All stocks will rebound, just gotta look for the rock bottom. Thanks to all the developers, programmers and everyone else who spends their valuable time and effort in creating these apps for us. You guys make it worth owning an iPhone, not apple.

Thats funny, I dunno why he has 6 but I have 2 custom made, and 1 laptop, and when you make a custom computer, it surpases any company made computer by price performance and any mac that it comes to face, macs have been over pricing people alot lately, like the iphone, if it werent for jailbreaking I would of already broken the iphone from the 16 apps it only has... and i was incredibly pissed off from the 200$ price drop they had, windows custom made were always cheaper and highly upgradeable and customizeable, with the parts that are 4 generations newer, e.g the Mac 8800GT gfx designed for macs, and then the 350gtx which passed the 9000 series and 8000 and 200... (im running on the 4870x2 for now...

Unless I am into stocks (in which case I would most definitely not be getting my info here, no offense), this really has no interest for most people. All we are going to here in this forums is how Apple is better than Windows and why, etc. etc, etc.

All 6 PCs are running perfectly. 1 dual boots with Hackintosh and that crashes it so I'll stick with Windows as its more stable.
Also my 6 PCs can do a hell of a lot more than the Apple can. As the report says 8% of users use Apples. Thats because Apple can only do 8% of what a PC can do.
Lets see you try to make me wrong as we all know this is the truth.
Apple = 8% of users but cost 92% more.
PC = 92% of users and 8% of the cost.
Doesnt make sence to me. This is why I've got 6 PCs and you only have 1 Apple.
I'm still here to find out about all the hacks to the iPhone. If you've read my previous posts on other threads you would realise I've already upgraded to a Dopod as it does a LOT more than the iPhone can straight out of the box and I'm so much happier with it.Apple wants clones instead of customers.

I bleed PC but your numbers are a tad bit skewed. That would imply that you can get the hardwars of an $1100 Macbook for $88 as a pc notebook. If you can work these miracles, tell me! OSX ODES crash on PCs, but it really isn't built for them. To be fair though that means Windows and Linux are much better designed to be able to accept such a variety of hardware. As for hacking the iphone you are dead on. It is near worthless without these hacks. Looking forward to finally seeing some real competition with android and BlackBerry OS to see what we really have in store.
But seriously if you can hook me up with a notebook for 80 bucks with intel core2 duos show me where to sign!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OS X doesn't be crashin on ma' PC. I am actually looking forward to Windows Seven; I wonder if it will have enough innovation to attract the now more knowledgable market to boost market share
If it doesn't, you can expect the Mac share to grow. The statement macs can only do 8% of what PC's can do is inaccurate; I use Windows for gaming alone, and everything else that I did on windows before I installed OS X in June I can still do on OS X. Most users can use a Mac for what they do, and what most people do is word processing and multimedia.
A reason macs are bought less is because they aren't sold in as many places, and Mac advertising in the UK is nil. If they saturated retail outlets with Mac merchandise and saturated advertising, I'm sure Apple would sell more. But the fact of the matter is that any store you go in, you see a plethora of PC brands, and probably one mac in the corner. I see a mac once, maybe twice a month, no exaggeration.
To be fair, many people who say that Macs cost less in the long run is fecal matter; many people do not need to upgrade their PC unless they are gamers or they partake in some other power-intensive activity. And not many people look at the long term cost.
Supply and demand. A high price good wll get less demand. Macs are higher priced than a PC, and as a result, they sell less.Last edited by dale1v; 10-03-2008 at 06:17 AM.
