How Do You Clean Your Mighty Mouse Scroll Ball?
I own Apple's Mighty Mouse and noticed one night that it would scroll down but not up. It appears that some people have problems with the Mighty Mouse doing this or not scrolling at all. The problem is small particles get within and under the little ball.
When my mouse did this... this is what I did to get it to scroll up again. I turned my mouse upside down and I got a clean cloth and dampened it and then rubbed it against the ball.
The guy at Apple also stated that you can try the canned air and blow the air at the ball to dislodge any dirt as well.
The problem is the little hole that the ball sets in gets dirt around it and this causes the ball not to move. When I clean my ball I do press down a little bit to make sure the edge of the hole is clean as well...
But if you are still having problems with it and these ways are not fixing it and your a gutsy person you can try the method below. He will show you how to completely tear your mighty mouse apart to clean the hole thing.

Thank you! Thats a cool hint... Submit it to Apple now
Search Google for "Custom Firmware 3.1.2" if you don't have a Mac and are using Windows!

Thanks for the link!
Although, I would note: Try just rubbing the mouse ball with an "alcohol swab" before disassembling it... This will solve most of your trackball and "crazy mouse" problems as noted here: http://www.modmyi.com/forums/leopard...-my-mouse.html

Excellent post... I had to clean mine recently and used a Clorox wipe that I let dry out for a few hours. Worked like a charm and the mouse was squeaky clean afterwards. I like your write up on taking it apart... Might have to try that...

I just took it apart a couple of months ago and it's worked like a charm ever since. It it does get stuck sometimes I just turn it over and slide it across a piece of paper till it works again. Usually does the job.

Very helpful post. I used clorox wipe and it worked like a charm. By your method it is very smart. It gives life to my almost dead mouse. Thank you so much.
