Why is UNIX Special?
I was just wondering if someone could give me some basic points as to why Apple prefers a UNIX based operating system, and if people really feel that it is better. I really have no clue and am just interested so any insight will be helpful. Thanks.

It's like comparing apples to oranges. It's just a stable platform to build on. Linux is based off UNIX too. The kernels (builds) that Apple uses are open source, thus free. Same with Linux. Read up at the Wikipedia links if you want more info. Mac OS X demonstrates that it's more stable than Windows XP/Vista because it's UNIX based, as-opposed-to being built on DOS.

Cool beans. It can get so technical if you dive into it. For the average user, the benefits of a UNIX based OS is sort of lost. If you now UNIX commands, like knowing DOS commands, you can do awesome things. Quickly too.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!
