bummer, I haven't backed up any blobs. And from searching around it seems like I can only back them up when apple is signing the firmware... Is there any way to get them now?

+1. You can probably save 5.0.1 SHSHs with iFaith though if you are still currently on 5.0.1.

There are a lot of websites that let you download shsh blobs, just google it and use sn0wbreeze to pack the firmware and shsh blobs together
