Default I am on 4.2.6 Greenpoison JB on my Verizon
    Hi,

I have one of the first Verizon iphone 4 still running 4.2.6 and JB'd with greenpoison.

I have been avoiding Carrier Updates / Upgrades for the sodtware.

Like an idiot I did not save the SHSH when jailbroke it.

    Questions:

Am I missing something really useful in the carrier udpate?

Anyone knows if when the new Iphone gets released, would we have upgrades to have same capabilities or is it mostly Firmware?

Please elaborate / recommend if I did not ask correctly

    Thanks

There isn't a need to avoid carrier updates. Don't know what you'd really be "missing" so to speak, but it doesn't hurt to do them. I okay the carrier updates all the time (have had 2 so far).

I'm not understanding your second question...could you rephrase it?

So Carrier Settings Updates will not affect the Jailbreak on 4.2.6?

What I meant on the Iphone 4S release is,

Would we customers with iPhone 4 will have a firmware update that will match the goods on the 4S or are they totally different phones ? ( I know so far the 4S has a dual processor, but that is all I know )

    Thanks

Yeah carrier updates shouldn't be a problem to do.

And yes iPhone 4 will have firmware updates that follow what the iPhone 4S will have. Some hardware differences may (or may not) give the 4S more features but overall the iPhone 4 isn't an old phone, it'll be able to have new features as well.

Your jailbreak gets reversed with carrier updates
Don't do until new jail break is out

Like I said, carrier updates don't do anything to your jailbreak.

An update, Moneymikey, refers to updating the firmware and not carrier updates. Those are different things. An update to iOS 5 is wiping the entire phone and installing a clean firmware version onto it. Carrier updates don't do that. That's why updating to iOS 5 causes you to "lose your jailbreak." Any restore or update to a firmware version will cause you to lose the jb and it must be re-jailbroken.

To my understanding carrier updates will update information that is CDMA specific and has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone software. What you read on cydia was about software updates, not carrier update settings. I know for an absolute fact that carrier update settings can only do good for, and will NOT affect anything with your jailbreak. I do them every single time it's available. It's essentially doing the same thing as dialing *228 and hitting option 2.
