I'm on a Verizon iphone 4. The current installed firmware is 4.2.6 and the device was jailbroken using greenpois0n.
I decided I was going to upgrade to 4.2.8. I downloaded the 4.2.8 ipsw and ran it through sn0wbreeze to create the custom ipsw. I put the device in DFU mode, opened itunes, and shift+restored the custom 4.2.8 ipsw --- I got a "3194" error. Then I tried running the Start TSS Server in tinyumbrella, and I avoided the 3194 error, but then got a "1600" error.
Frustrated with these errors, I said I was just going to do a restore to 4.2.8 sans jailbreak...but now I'm getting a 3194 error just having itunes try to restore the iphone back to a default state.
Can you help me? Ideally I'd like to have the 4.2.8 jailbreak, but at this point I just want to be able to do a non-jailbreak restore if need be.
Edit: If I try to acquire the SHSH in tinyumbrella it says "Cydia does not have your SHSH for [4.2.7 / 4.2.6]. There is no way for you to get them. Sorry. You are just too late." I got iSHSHit and did a screen capture of the SHSH, but I can't save it there either as it gives me an error saying the firmware is no longer available for signing.

you need to put the device in pwned dfu mode with redsn0w or sn0wbreeze

It's been in pwned dfu mode. itunes opens up and says that it's in restore mode. I shift+restore and select the custom ipsw. Then I get the 3194 error.

are your hosts pointed to cydia's server? if so point it towards apple
05-08-2011, 11:40 AM #6
Can you elaborate on the host,Str4y?

Go into advanced uncheck the one that says sets hosts yo cydia on exit

And does tinyumbrella need to be running when I update through itunes or do I close it out after checking that box?
I checked it, closed tinyumbrella, and tried to do both a custom ipsw install and just an itunes restore --- both "cannot be updated at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable."

close it after checking the box and then you need to close itunes and then reopen it

Thanks again. Jailbroken on 4.2.8 now thanks to you.
Do I now want to toggle the host back to cydia in tinyumbrella? What does that switch do?
05-08-2011, 01:57 PM #15
it will just point the hosts file to sauriks server
05-08-2011, 02:44 PM #16
You'll only want it to point to Cydia when you need to restore to a previous fw version that Apple no longer signs, such as 4.3.2, 4.2.1, etc.
For upgrades to current fw versions you'll actually want to avoid pointing to Cydia (as this thread has demonstrated).

Annie is Apple still signing 4.2.7 and 4.3.2?
05-08-2011, 02:46 PM #18
That I'm not sure of. Usually Apple closes the window within a week.
