After i jailbreak my iphone 4 into 4.3.3, my iphone cannot be turn off any more. Every time when I turn it off, my iphone will be auto turn it on. This made me cannot update my iphone 4 IOS, jailbreak or even restore my iphone to factory reset mode.
When the time I update my iphone 4 IOS through the itunes (10.5 latest version), normally iphone should be turn off by itunes in order to continue the update, but once itunes turn off my iphone, my iphone will auto turn it on again, then my itunes appear "Error", and stop the update. Same thing happen when i update, restore, or restore back up.
I had no more idea, anyone PRO here can please help me on this?
Apologize that my english writing is not good.

Set it into Recovery mode to update/restore in iTunes.
When the phone is on, hold home and power buttons down. When the screen turns off, release the power button and keep holding home.
It should then give you the recovery mode screen (shows USB and iTunes logo on you phone). Then iTunes will tell you the device is in recovery and should be restored.

I agree you don't have to have the phone off to get it in DFU mode. Please let us know if that worked for you.War is my mission. Killing is my ambition.

The phone does have to be off for DFU. If you do the process while the phone is on, it's recovery mode. They're different, but they'll get you to be able to restore all the same.
