Download and run Tiny Umbrella (link and info in signature). Save SHSH blobs from both Apple and Cydia.
    What blobs do you have?

Tiny Umbrella does not report error 1600 or 1601

What SHSH blobs does Tiny Umbrella show you have? Provide a screenshot if you're unsure.

Perfect. You have one choice for a full jailbreak option: iOS 4.1.

What is your modem firmware (baseband) version?
Settings / General / About / Modem firmware
Do you need an unlock? Work with a non-authorized carrier, or was it working before?

AT&T customers do not need an unlock. It works automatically

One of your original errors in post #1 was 28. This is a hardware error. A restore won't fix it.
But try loading 4.1 and see what happens.

Open Tiny Umbrella, advanced tab, uncheck 'set hosts to cydia on exit', exit Tiny Umbrella.

Hold down shift, press restore, and select iOS 4.1 firmware with iTunes.
If iTunes reports error 10xx, run Tiny Umbrella, press 'exit recovery' (not fix recovery)

To jailbreak, run redsn0w 0.9.6rc8, select install Cydia.

Error 28 is reported as hardware error by the official iphone wiki site:

    Error 28

Hardware error. Return your device to Apple if possible. The problem is a bad dock connector on the iPhone. Must change the connector.
If you have tried almost everything, reset the logic board (leave uncharged for five days or remove battery for half an hour), then pwn and restore. If this doesn't work, the flash memory/hard drive of your device is damaged.

I would suggest exhausting all software options ....

Yes, It's best to use the latest versions, unless instructed to use something else.

FYI: Tiny Umbrella is not needed to restore iOS 4.1.
TU is used in the 1st step to delete/remove all gs.apple.com lines from your hosts file ... and
in the last step IF an iTunes error occurs.

Error 28 is a hardware error. There is nothing else we can do.
The 'yellow white striped' confirms a hardware error.
Sorry, there is nothing left to be done except repair.
