Default Doesn't work like it once did
    Hello,
    I have a iPh4 on 4.2.8 and jailbroken via sn0wbreeze (win)
Ive been using it for about 2 months with out issue.
Until now, my device has become very flaky, freezing, lockingup, respinging itself at will.
I am sure its something that I installed and or either its a tweak or 2 apps arent playing nice together.

I tried to restore (shift, restore) via iTunes and use the snowbreeze file that it created but I keep getting a 3194 error.
I thought that maybe it was that I was not getting into the DFU mode correctly so I used iREB to get into the mode.
I still get the 3194 error.
Ive rebooted my computer but no change.

Can anyone please help be with this?

    Thanks

Error 3194 occurs because you need to run Tiny Umbrella, get your SHSH blobs, and run TSS server before installing any non-current iOS.

Check the link in my signature.

OK so if I understand this Tiny Umbrella will get me the SHSH blobs (not sure what that stands for), and run TSS server (also not sure what that is)?

I downloaded it but what to have a clear understanding before going any further.

I do have the iPhone 4-4.2.8.ipsw, and sn0wbreeze_iPhone 4-4.2.8.ispw, I still need them right?

    Thanks

Well I was reading up on this stuff and now find my device is stuck at the apple screen, meaning its not booting up.
So I decided to plug it in and start Tiny Umbrella.

It is saying that 0 SHSH can be found and the TTS server is just spinning not finding or doing anything.

I assume that since my device is stuck at the apple its not going to work?

OK I tried iREB-r4 and got my device to reboot.
My question is why did it go into recovery loop it was charging I unplugged it and loop we go???

OK so in Tiny Umbrella it shows 3 SHSs as saved.
I then turned on TSS Server upend iTunes and shift restore and chose the Sn0wbreeze 4.2.8 (which is the version I have on my device at this time.
iTunes returned me a error message 21 and said it could not restore my device.

Now what needs to be done am I missing something?

    Thanks

If you have 4.2.8 SHSH blobs, you can restore using Tiny Umbrella, iREB, iTunes.
Sn0wbreeze builds custom firmwares. Not necessary on a Verizon iPhone.
Jailbreakme.com is the easiest on 4.2.8

    Download 4.2.8 ipsw and iREB
Connect iPhone and power off ...
Start TU, verify 4.2.8 SHSH blobs, start TSS server.
    iREB to enter pwnd-DFU mode
    iTunes shift/click select 4.2.8 -- load stock 4.2.8
If iTunes 1013 error, run TU's exit recovery.

    jailbreak with jailbreakme.com ( Dev-Team Blog )

I never used Jailbreakme.com is that untethered or tether?

Also you are saying I should install 4.2.8 before and not the Sn0wbreeze created one?

    Thanks

Jailbreakme.com is untethered. Check here: Dev-Team Blog

Sn0wbreeze builds custom firmwares. Not necessary on a Verizon iPhone.

Jailbreakme.Com works on stock 4.2.8. Use iTunes to install a stock 4.2.8 firmware.
TU + TSS server is required (with previously saved 4.2.8 SHSH blobs)

OK I typed Jailbreakme.com in my browser (Opera) and I am looking for where I can download the app.
Is this a iDevice download or do I download it to my PC?

    THANKS

From the instructions in my prior link ( Dev-Team Blog )

No computer is necessary for jbme3.0…just browse to JailbreakMe 3.0 on your device and install it from there!

So I totally understand... After restoring form the stock 4.2.8 ispw go to the device browser (safari) and search for Jailbreakme 3.0.

This will start the download or jailbreak process?

THANK YOU SO MUCH I KNOW I AM VERY GREEN AT THIS

Well I did it BUT I am stuck at: 1013 error.
I run TU's exit recovery, a few times as well as iREB's , Set Auto Boot True.
I keep ending up at the iTunes and USB cable screen.

    Thought this was going well...
    Any direction?

OK so I tried this again and now got a message that the iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured 3004.

    Now I don't have a working device.
    Any direction?

    Thanks

After the restore process finishes, go back to TinyUmbrella and click "Exit Recovery Mode".

If that does not work, put your device into ...Normal... DFU and use the "fix recovery" button in Tiny Umbrella.

If you are still stuck in recovery download the stand alone "fixrecovery" from the Tiny Umbrella website. You will get two files one is fixrecovery421 (for 4.2.1 firmware) and fixrecovery43 (for 4.3.x firmware)
Put your device into ...Normal... DFU and run fixrecovery43.
Wait for the process to complete.

Your device should reboot and be normal.

Now it seems to be stuck at the apple screen.

Download it from here: zlib1.dll free download - DLL-files.com
Unzip and put zlib1.dll in the same directory as fixrecovery.

I'm almost positive you need to run fixrecovery43 (not 421)

downloaded, unzipped and placed zlib1.dll in the fixrecovery-win folder this time I chose to execute fixrecovery43.
My device booted back into the iTunes cable screen

On the screen there is really small text that I cant make out other then Greenpoison.com.

    Does that shed any light?

OK now the screen had a massive amount of text flying through the screen.

    Thanks

I think it might have worked.
My device activated and is now syncing.
I chose new instead of restoring my previous backup.

Can you help me to understand why this was so hard?

    THANK FOR ALL YOU HELP.
I am sure it gets old after a while.

Because Apple doesn't like jb'ing. The jb process is becoming more and more complicated every iOS version. It's easy for us (ME) to forget something, or not explain it clear enough. It's also easy for the user to make a mistake or misunderstand something.

Congratulations on making it work. Happy to help out.

Well my device will take most of the night to restore my music and stuff.
I will try the Jailbreakme tomorrow.

FYI: Restoring / syncing now is ok, but I usually get the critical stuff done 1st. The stuff that is most likely to cause a problem. Like unlock (if needed), jailbreak, critical / necessary tweaks, etc. Once I'm satisfied .. then on to Apple stuff. Your mileage may vary
