One tip I have is if you use one of those arm bands at the gym for your iPod like I do, take extra care if you take it in and out often. If you squeeze it from the front and back while taking it out, you will damage the lcds in the screen, thus creating solid black lines that run all the way across the screen. And they never go away. Well, I have had my iPod for almost 5 years with heavy daily useage. Maybe it's trying to tell me that its time for one of those new 120 gig iPods
