lower level formating for ipod touch 2nd gen

Hi

I was wondering if their is a way to do a lower level formatting of ipod touch 2g like for windows one uses debug on command prompt and enters values to do lower level formatting. The reason I want to do that is because my ipod touch 2g i am having issue when i try to play music or video files it gives error such as this video cannot be played or music this song cannot be played. Basically I have tried to restore the ipod touch 2g several time to take care of this issue but no go... I bought this ipod touch off eBay and I have no clue if the unit was ever jail-broken when i got it it was in factory default and seller did mention that it had this issue of video no playing. if some one can please help me out I would really appreciate it.
