    Hey Guys,
I just bought my iPod off a friend. It was running 4.2.1, stock fw. I connected it to my laptop, saved SHSH with Tiny Umbrella (TU)<I have 4.3.5, 5.0b1/2/3> I don't know why it didnt save the 4.2.1 or the 4.3.3. I jailbroke it, or rather, TRIED, with Green Poison. After the GP App icon came up, I opened it to install Cydia. When I did that, the device restarted after it did what it was doing.

Surprisingly, after rebooting, all my icons on my dock were deleted, and most stock applications, including FaceTime, Notes, Contacts, iPod, Music and Videos Safari, App Store, and some others. All went missing! This is a newly restored iPod so there weren't any other apps on it at all. All the other remaining applications worked, but the jailbreak applications were gone.

Now, I tried to restoring it to iPod4,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore which I used for my previous iPod touch 4th Gen to get it to 4.3.3 but the restore didn't work with a 1600 error. The bar came almost till the end but it didnt work.

So, this is what i did:
    1. I used the custom fw 4.3.3 using SnowBreeze, went into DFU using iReb, ran the TSS server from TU and I got the same result. It went almost to the end and then went back to the 'plug into iTunes' screen.
    2. I did the same WITHOUT TU, but now I got the 3194 error. That means that iTunes cannot connect to apple.
    3. I tried using the original fw with steps 1 & 2 but the same 3194 error.
    4. I know that my hosts file is buggered so I copied the hosts file from a brand new pc installation but now, whatever I do, I get the same silly error 3194.

iTunes doesnt go past the 'verifying with apple' message and it throws up this error again and again. I've used RecBoot but can't get the pod out of recovery.

However, I can put it into normal recovery, DFU and pwned DFU as well.

Please tell me what my options are at this point.
    I want 4.3.3 un-tethered jailbreak.

You guys saved me before, I know you can do it again.
    Now, I wait.

Also, few more points to mention.
    1. I have not yet tried it with any other PC or laptop.
    2. I have changed the USB ports.
    3. I have changed the USB cables.
    4. I have tried restarting my lappy.
    5. I have created a new user profile and tried to work from there as well.

I also have the hosts, hosts.nav and hosts.umbrella file.

These are the last few lines from my host files.

If you dont have 4.3.3 SHSH you cannot restore to 4.3.3.

Yes, but when I put it into TU, TU did not pick up 4.3.3 or .4; only 4.3.5. But, since I haven't installed anything on it, can't i get ahold of the blobs?

That is, I haven't installed anything new on it; so I was hoping I could do something. But why error 3194?

You can only save SHSH for a firmware when Apple is still signing that firmware. Currently Apple is only signing 4.3.5 (and the 5.0 betas) so that is the only SHSH you can save.

Isn't 3194 only for a hosts file issue?

    Wow!
Thanks Simon, I didn't know that! Sheesh!
So I guess I'll have to restore to a custom fw made using redsnow. Ok let's do that now then.

Are my host file settings correct then?

Not sure you are getting it. You are only able to save 4.3.5 SHSH so that is the only firmware you can restore to.

If your device is still on 4.2.1 you can possibly use iFaith to get your 4.2.1 SHSH from the actual device. If you have restored already then it is too late to that too.

Right. Im going to try I faith now.
Yes I got what you meant. About the blobs. Thanks. 

Simon, it just stuck at the Detecting iOS screen. It's been like that for 5 mins now. Will it usually take that long?
0/13 blobs captured and pass #0/5.

No luck with faith. Guess it's gotta be a tethered jb for now.

I've just tried downloading the official firmware and doing a restore, both by doing a shift+restore plus a normal iTunes restore. I'm getting the same 3194 error.
    Now I do... What?

Open tiny umbrella. Click advanced. Deselect box that says set hosts to cydia on exit. Then close tiny umbrella and try restoring to 4.3.5 again.

Successfully restored to 4.3.5 with TU open with it's TSS server. That was not needed but Anyways. Then jailbroken with red snow with 4.3.4. NOT 4.3.5.
A tethered jailbreak but it does the job.

Yup, thats how redsnow works for 4.3.5, need to point it to a 4.3.4 firmware.
