Springboard keeps crashing

Alright, sorry if this is in the wrong section as everything's a bit confusing seen as I just joined. However, my iPod's stuck in a springboard crashing cycle. I can run my iPod in safe mode but whenever I try to restart my springboard the lockscreen freezes, and then reboots back into safe mode. I've deleted the recent packages I installed from Cydia and that didn't help. Hopefully I can avoid a software reboot. Can anyone help? <3

Did you mess with anything in the filesystem? Delete EVERY tweak or package you installed from Cydia.

iDevices (iPhones, iPods, iPads) become very unstable when adding non-standard repositories, and their unauthorized / non-paid for / cracked / warez apps they host. If this is your situation, few choices exist. Restore may be your only option. MMi does not allow cracked/warez discussions.

I installed a free tweak and nothing happened. 30 or so minutes passed and my iPod randomly crashed.

Also, if I reset my iPod through Settings, will I be able to keep my 4.2.1 firmware or will I be forced by iTunes to upgrade to 4.3.5?

Delete / uninstall the tweak and test. Don't use reset all content & settings. Bad things will happen if you do.
