Default iPod Touch 2G @ 4.2.1 (sleep button not working). Advice?

Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G on my hands - I was rocking a jailbroken 3.1.3 until it got in a passcode lock glitch and it got an equivalent of about 40 years remaining until I could enter the password again. But my sleep button hasn't worked since late 2010, just after my 2-year warranty had finished (ffuuuuu) and I recently went to Apple to finally go and fix it. They asked what would be the equivalent of about $90 to get it working again, so I refused and just handed it over to at least get my device functional.

Told them to restore to 3.1.3, but Apple had just launched this server validation thing, and they returned it to me with 4.2.1.

I had no SSH blobs, I remember my Cydia being all weird and asking me repeatedly about it even though I confirmed to let it take them. So, no, I don't have them, and I'm stuck with 4.2.1 and a non-functional sleep button. I used to use SBSettings, but I can't jailbreak now, and trying to get it into a DFU loop gives me an error 11 when I try to restore to the modified IPSW.

Is there any way to jailbreak without getting into DFU on 4.2.1, or at least somehow getting into DFU manually?

    Thanks,
    random new guy

Looked into that thread, but decided to ask anyway. Ah well, guess I'll be sticking to not jailbreaking for a looooooong time.

    Thanks for the reply.
