Upgrade iPod 2g from 3.1.3 to 4.x

Can I upgrade an iPod touch .I know apple is not signing any f.w anymore but is there a way to do it.no shsh blobs saved .tinyumbrella cannt save.on Cydia the make my life easier says it's still queuing or something.. In other words how can I upgrade the iPod touch .. Is there anyway?????

apple is always goingto sing ios 4.2.1 for iphone 3g/ipt2g and ios 3.1.3 for iphone/ipt 1st gens, because they are the last firnwares for those devices.

just restore to it and jailbreak via redsn0w

No when u restore an iPod touch the FW it puts it to is 2.2 .. It won't let u .it says iPod is up to date on FW. I'm just going to try snowbreeze and make a custom FW and see if that works.. I was asking to see if I edit my host files on my laptop and redirect the server to look else where for the FW.. Like saurik's server .. But I guess not..

The only reason I wanna upgrade is.. Is that Cydia apps (most of them) require (well the ones needed) 4.x like music meow, unlimited tones etc......

just plug it in and restore to 4.2.1 and your set then

Just to be clear, you've downloaded a stock 4.2.1 firmware found here on the Downloads section or in felixbruns.de and performed a shift+restore in iTunes?

Did you ensure your iTunes is updated?

Did you also try it after putting your device in dfu mode first?

ensure your host file is NOT POINTED TO SAURIKS SERVER.

then all you have to do in itunes is press restore, it'll work fine.

you can jailbreak ios 3.1.3 using spirit(there is no 3.2.1?)

aswell as ios 4.0 (ipt) using jailbreakme. anything past those you need a computer for, take your choice.

You'll need to use a computer either way. To downgrade you need SHSHs. If you don't have SHSHs for 3.1.x then you can't downgrade. Then you would have to use your computer to jb 4.2.1.

If you have SHSHs to downgrade to 4.0.1 or below, you'd run tinyumbrella, save click save shshs, run TSS server, then shift+restore to desired firmware version. This can only happen if you saved SHSHs BEFORE and not right now.

As you can see it's probably easier just to jailbreak it on 4.2.1 than trying to downgrade.
