2nd gen (non-mc) problems with multitasking, pkgbackup)

4.0.1 with jailbreakme.com:
PKGBackup will gather data but flashes a "backup not found/corrupt" message, at which point it crashes.
Slow boot times, no verbose.

4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.6b6:
I cannot switch to other apps (native multitasking) if not on Springboard. If I do, it crashes (but no safe mode).

Because I recently found how useful PKGBackup is, I have switched to 4.2.1. However, the multitasking issue still bugs me. I used MyOS to enable it.

Any suggestions on a fix?

EDIT:
PKGBackup doesn't want to sync w/ dropbox. Contact backups work fine and a folder in dropbox is created (/PKGBackup/[random Alphanumeric]), but nothing inside those folders. No network activity on the ipod either.
