Why when I use green poison I get stuck in the unable to find gdevilist screen. Them when I use redsnow I get stuck at the pineapple icon after rebooting it and the Cydia and safari just keep crashing.

you will see a button when you open tinyumbrella that says save my shsh's

Open tu plug your iPod and click save shsh it will tell you if you can use 4.2.1 or not
