Default iPod Touch MC 8GB Stuck in Recovery Mode

    Here's the situation.
My friend had his iPod Touch 8GB MC jailbroken with blackra1n. Then he got tired of it crashing all the time, so he restored it and updated to 4.2 (I believe it was).

I tried to jailbreak and had no success, so I tried to downgrade it to 4.1. However, the downgrade failed. Now the iPod is stuck in Recovery Mode.

I've tried using Recboot to kick it out of Recovery Mode but haven't had any luck.
Along with all that, I think the imput for the iPod cable is messed up because it'll disconnect and reconnect on the computer multiple times and it will get to the point where I can't even do anything with it and has trouble charging it.

    Any suggestions?

The 2G iPods only go up to 4.2.1. Apple cut them off from future updates.

To check what software the iPod is. Go into the settings app, then to general, then to about. If it's 4.2.1, jailbreak it with greenpoison.
