IPod Touch 3g detected as IPhone

Hi there

I am new to this sort of things but here is my story. I have purchased an IPod touch 3g 64gb, used and from the beginning I knew that the device was not turning on. I said to myself, how bad can it be to fix it....well I was wrong.
When I got it, I plugged it in my computer and the device showed up as Apple Mobile device in my device manager but nothing showed up on the IPod screen. Great! I went to Itunes and I realized that something was wrong when my IPod was detected as an IPhone. I downloaded an earlier firmware version for the ipod and force the restore that way. It did not work. I have read many threads over the internet and I have discovered Tinyumbrella. Installed and ran it. The only thing I was able to do it with it, is fix recovery mode and start TSS Server. This enabled some mode in my IPod that lit up the screen and displayed something about: unable to find gBdevList,unable to find fs_mount,unable to find fs_unmount,unable to find fs_load_file,Greenpois0n initialized. I have tried multiple ways to restore the device to the original condition. The one that had some impact on the device is fixrecovery421 and 43. Somehow it downloaded some firmware recovery in the device and it seemed that it was going to work but I am always stuck in DFU mode. I have also tried iRecovery -s, it finds the device but it drops the usb comunication and I can't execute any other command. My first question is? Is this a lost cause? How bad is it when the IPod is detected as an IPhone?

OK I have done some digging around and I came up with more info. I was able to get ITunes recognize my IPod Touch by running redsn0w_win_0.9.6b4 and only this program. Any other updates will not work and using this restore file (iPod3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw). After this process , I connect to ITunes and try to restore, but I get different errors: 1600, 3194... Any solution to this?
