When Itunes says you have to restore, it recognizes it as an Ipod, but cannot report the serial number, version or any other info, it say N/A. This file must be corrupt. Anyone know how to access the files on the unit its self?

Don't worry its supposed to say N/A. Anyway, just got a brain wave, as a iPod 1g user I know that apple recently dropped support of the 1st gen on ios 4. Just thought that what if itunes 10 might have also dropped support of iPod 1g. In other words i think itunes 10 might be incompatible with your idevice. So I think you should try downgrading iTunes 0 to 9.2.1. Just confirm if you want to proceed so I can show you how.
