Downgrade?
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.2.1 to 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 without SHSH blobs? I really need this because my ipod is really slow and EVERYTHING crashes. Thank you to whoever helps.

If it's an iPhone 3G yes, if it is any other iDevice, no.

Then unfortunately you'll need SHSHs

So i cant force a downgrade? Like to unpack everything and manually replace all of the files?

that's been done and failed. It just can't happen. Is there a particular reason why you need to downgrade?

Yes. My ipod is currently completely unusable. Cydia is extremely slow, safari keeps crashing, Terminal wont start at all, etc etc...
And i cant afford a new one.
(and it MIGHT be my friends that i accidentally updated...)

We can fix that.
Go ahead and download Sn0wbreeze 2.2 from ih8sn0w.com.
Download a stock 4.2.1 ipsw for your device.
Create a custom firmware with Sn0wbreeze and the 4.2.1 ipsw. You'll get options to select what you want or not. Be sure to go into expert mode.
When you get to choosing, make sure to deselect multitasking and wallpaper. Then build the custom fw and shift+restore to it.
The iPod should run decently if not pretty well without multitasking and wallpaper enabled.
Edit: that's what I did before I traded off my iPod touch 2g, it was awful on 4.2.1, but I killed off multitasking and wallpaper and it ran *almost* like it was on 3.1.3. It had a very slight "skip" when flipping pages, but it was much better off than before.Last edited by i.Annie; 02-23-2011 at 05:59 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

OK but before i do that i tried to downgrade it to 3.1.2. I managed to downgrade it to 4.1. Then i tried to do a offline install ireb version 4.0/4.01 and it did everything. Then i tried to downgrade to 3.1.2 but it gave me a 1611 error. Is it possible to force it in some way? It is currently running 4.1 but i can take it down to 4.0.

Hm, don't know. Usually there are some side effects to doing downgrades that aren't supposed to happen. One instance is some iPhone users have downgraded to 4.1 but their jb remained tethered (this was before untethered 4.2.1 came out), but they kept getting thrown into DFU loop.
But 4.1 is as far as ive seen people go down in regards to downgrading without SHSHs.
I'd just suggest disabling multitasking and wallpaper, I mean that's essentially what going to 3.1.x does to improve speed/performance. If you can't take it any further down you know. But keep trying if you want to go to 3.1.x, who knows, you might get somewhere.

OK then that is what i will do. I will keep looking for ways to downgrade it though because i might strike gold. You never know. Now if only i could get a few different SHSH's for examination...
On second thought i will stay with trying other things.Last edited by I LOVE CAPS LOCK; 02-23-2011 at 07:11 PM.
