Jailbreak ipod 2G MC Model help

Hello, I am new at jailbreak and would like some help on jailbreak an ipod 2g mc model with original firmware 3.1.1 The ipod belongs to my nephew and I would like to jailbreak it for him, but dont know how. Would like some help in doing it. Did some reading, but nothing about MC model can be jailbreaked. I ran tinyumbrella on the ipod and got this:

1. can i upgrade to 3.1.2 and then use blackra1n to jailbreak it? if so, how can i upgrade to 3.1.2?
2. can i upgrade to 4.2.1 and then use green poison to jailbreak it?

upgrade to 4.2.1 ten use greenpois0n to jailbreak. simple as pie
oh yea, and use itunes to get 4.2.1 firmware
