Upgrading 2G MC model 3.1.1 to 3.1.3
I bought a used iTouch 2g MC Model for my daughter and would like to upgrade it to 3.1.3. It is currently at 3.1.1. I have the .ipsw and have tried shift+restore or shift+update in iTunes, but I always get back the "could not be updated. An unknown error occurred ( 3194 )".
I have tried several things, but nothing seems to let it load.
I don't care about jail breaking it, but several apps want at least 3.1.3 to run.
I have used TU to save SHSH for it, but I wouldn't expect to need them for what I am trying to do. TU saved 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2.1 blobs.
I tried search but everything I could find was about coming back to 3.1.3 from 4.x.x.
Also, I have been using a PC, but also have a MacBook if necessary...
Thanks,

Without an SHSH for 3.1.3, you can't.
EDIT: I stand corrected, I think: according to theiphonewiki.com, you should be able to upgrade to 3.1.3 without SHSH blobs. So I don't know why you're getting the error.
EDIT2: I found something which says to get rid of that error you need to add this line to your hosts file:
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Worth a try, although I thought that line had something to do with saved SHSH's.
In Windows the hosts file is in C
windows\system32\drivers\etc\

I believe SHSHs are still needed for all iPod Touches
Why don't you take it up to 4.1? Disable multitasking and wallpaper and it will run perfect, that's what I did with mine. Jb it with Greenpois0n.Last edited by i.Annie; 01-23-2011 at 07:47 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Shsh's are not needed for the mb model iPod touch. For the mc model they are needed.
