So I just bought a 8gb touch on ebay listing says its a 2nd gen googled model # MC086LL says its 3rd gen . Don't know if 2nd or 3rd matters much . Fw ver. 3.1.1 . I'm runinng w7 x64 .
I see alot of different firmware verisions with different jailbreak methods .
1) does the firmware onboard determin what it will do after jailbreak ?
2) if it does what fw should I upgrade to ? and are some eaiser to jailbreak than others?
3) which is easier to recover from should the jailbreak go wrong.
4) Is there away to save (backup) current fw so if it goes bad I can start over again or worse case I end up with it back the way it is if unable to jailbreak?
Unless it has SHSH then you will be forced to go to 4.2.1 if you restore or update which there is no jailbreak for that device. Check to see what SHSH it has with tiny umbrella.
I should have the ipod in my posession friday ,like I said earlier ,I just bought it . Its on its way here .i'll check shsh then . Just getting a headstart on the jailbreak .
If I'm forced to update /restore to 4.2.1 wil there or is there a jailbreak in the works ?
Which according to goggle is feb. 10th , so thats not such a long wait . wikipedia lists a "teathered" jailbreak using Greenpois0n RC4 or Snowbreeze 2.1 for 4.2.1
Okay after I got the ipod I checked for saved shsh , there were none . But thats what I expected to find . So just as I was beginng to accept the fact that I was not going to be able to JB this ipod ,the jailbreak gods felt my pain .
I bought this on ebay from a seller that won't take returns (don't blame him) its a good ipod ,except for not being able to JB . Turns out however that the earphone jack don't work. When I plug in headphones the speaker doesn't turn off , and nothing comes out of the headphones . Its gen 2 so there is no settings to mess with . Normally this would be a bad thing , but this now overrides his return policy . Talked with him and hes going to take it back.
While I was messing with this one I also realized that 8gb is kinda small , I got the ipod mainly for video . So I looked around and found a deal on a 4th gen 32 gb . From what I've read here and elsewhere I shouldn't have a problem with a JB on a 4th gen .
Thats what I was thinking . The new Iphone comes out in a couple weeks and a new break should follow . Also as the new ipod shoudn't have 4.3b1 in it yet and depending on how long its been sitting on a shelf it may have something older than 4.2.1 in it . I'll find out when I get it this week .
Well I got the Gen 4 32gb today . It has 4.2.1 (8C148) on it now . This can be JB unteathered with: Pwnage Tool 4.1 correct? Do I need to use tiny umbrella and save SHSH first ?Can you point me to a step by step guide to do this using windows?
Just ran tiny umbrella on the new 4g 32gb and when I hit "save shsh" it found two shsh files . 4.2.1(8C148) and 4.3b2(8F5153d). Whats up with that? Its new and I've never changed the ios . Does this increase my chances of a untethered JB ?
tiny umbrella saved the current firmware SHSH (4.2.1) and 4.3b2 SHSH. Nothing weird about that. It has been saving beta SHSH for some time now just in case a situation like the redsnow monte jailbreak can be taken advantage of.
I AM NOW JAILBROKE ! From just a casual glance jailbreaking is more geared to iPhone users , but I'll check it out maybe I'll find some cool stuff that I can't do without .BIG THANKS to greenpoison folks and Modmyi . I'll probably be back with more Q's than A's
