Downgrading 4.1 to 3.1.2 or anything else that will allow jailbreak.

I previously had my itouch jailbroken with 3.1.2, used blackra1n, worked perfectly. I accidentally upgraded to 4.1. Have not been able to downgrade. I have edited the host file with 74.208.105.171 gs apple.com and I am getting the "apple could not restore because server could not be contacted" message. I also took off the "74.208.105.171 gs apple.com" and then got the message that apple could not verify. I am stuck and would appreciate any help I can get with this.

P.S. I do have the "iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore" saved on my computer if that helps at all.

But do you have the SHSHs for 4.1?

How can I find out if I have those? I am not sure.

Download tinyumbrella from thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com then click "save SHSH" and see what shows up.

downloaded it, gave me the following error: No JVM could not be found on your system. Please define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME
to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE or download a JRE from java.com: Java + You

That's not it...you need to update your java to run TU so you can see what SHSHs you may have.

Ran tinyumbrella and no SHSH's saved. I did see the iPHONE SHSH's saved, but no iTOUCH

Unfortunately you cannot downgrade then. Which iPod touch is this? Is it a 2G?

Ok, so if I can't downgrade, can I jailbreak? I have tried blackra1n and limera1n , which both didn't work once itunes tried to verify with apple.For limerain it does the jailbreak, I do not see a green raindrop during and once it is done it gives me the "done" message, but on the ipod it shows no signs of it being jailbroken, I do not see Cydia. My model numbr is : PC086LL/A

My ulitmate goal is to jailbreak my itouch.

Use greenposion to jailbreak.

Id say use redsn0w over limera1n or greenpoison, but that's just a personal preference. You can downgrade to 3.x.x and not need your shsh files cause 3 is not signed like the 4 series is.

MC (or PC) model iTouch can only be jailbroken with greenpoison on 4.1.

Finally jailbroken once again! Thanks! Used greenpoison, now on to try and get all the apps I had. I did save or "backup" apps and app info with Aptbackup and Appbackup. I jailbroke the itouch and went to Cydia, but can't find Aptbackup or APPbackup, why is this? Do I have to add sources? or something else?

Try refreshing the sources under changes and installing any updates first.

X- actually there a couple options besides gp for jb a mc itouch. Snowbreeze will do it. Just so you kno gp is not the only way. Glad you got it working op.

Now everytime I turn it on, it starts up in safe mode. Gives me the message:" We apologize for the inconvenience but springboard has just crashed....." I hit the restart button and restarts and goes straight back to the same message and is on safe mode. Any advice? or should I post this on another forum?

Did you install anything from cydia before it crashed to safe mode? If so remove what u installed and see if it goes back to normal. Can you restate springboard to non safe mode?
