Does anyone know a sure fire way to down grade? I want to jailbreak my new iPod and I don't feel like waiting for a tethered jailbreak to come out. So downgrading seems like the best option. I've tried a bunch of ways none of them seem to work.
Yes there is, I did it myself actually. I accidentally upgraded my iPod Touch to 4.2.1, and it was not worth it because of the non-efficient tethered jailbreakings. So I searched around and wondered how to downgrade back down to 4.1. It was quite easy, actually. I'll give you a small tutorial that worked for me:
1) Go to iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
2) Open the dropdown menu in the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV section
3) This is very important: you have to select your devices settings BUT MAKE SURE IT IS 4.1 ON THE WEB SITE. (you can find out the required information of your device in Settings > General > About).
4) Once you have downloaded it, open up iTunes and go to the "Restore" button.
5) Hold SHIFT and then click the Restore button, a new window should pop up and you can then select the correct IPSW file you just downloaded.
6) Now it is just like a normal restore, follow it correctly, and it will restore, or downgrade, your ipod back to 4.1!
If this was done before Apple stopped signing 4.1 which was Sunday of last week, then it was possible. This isn't an option at this time unless SHSHs are saved.
