Trying to downgrade ipod touch 2g (MB) from OS 4.1 to 3.1.3
So I jailbroke my ipod using greenpoison, but I was having some problems with it after the jailbreak. I could not transfer any app from itunes to the ipod, or from the ipod to itunes (and these were legitimate apps that I bought, not cracked apps.)
Anyways, after a trying a lot of different things, I decided I would attempt to start over by downgrading my OS from 4.1 to 3.1.3, then jailbreak again and see if I still had the same issue.
Several times I tried shift-clicking restore in itunes and browsing to the ipsw file I downloaded from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
The ipod was definitely in DFU mode, and I had the correct ipsw file for my ipod. Every time I get the error message 'the ipod touch could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.'
So does any one have an idea what I can do in order to downgrade the OS on this ipod? I am running itunes 10, although I don't know if this has any effect.
Since it is the2g mb model what happens if you just update to 4.2.1. Or just try and restore it back to 4.1. I know that you don't need shsh's for the iPhone 3G but am not sure about the 2g. I just updated my 2g and am jailbroken on 4.2.1. I'm gonna look and see
Okay so I just checked and it looks like you dont need your shsh for the mb model 2g. Not 100% sure though.
Tried jailbreaking again with greenpoison, but it won't acknowledge when the phone gets into DFU mode. Just keeps bringing up the 'try again' button. Anyways, thats a separate problem right now.
I am going to try jailbreaking with snowbreeze. If I can move apps to and from itunes after that, I am going to consider this succesful.
If that doesn't work, I am downloading 3.1.3 again right now. It should be done in about half an hour, so I'll try it again then.
Why don't you try limera1n or redsn0w0.9.6b6 that is what I used.
I believe that you can use snowbreeze if you are already jailbroken like not restored to new.
I have heard somewhere that iTunes 10 doesn't let you restore to iOS 3.x, for that you need iTunes 9. I can't confirm that, but it's an idea. I would try restoring to 4.1, or even 4.2.1, and setting it up as a new iPod maybe, as you may have corrupted files in your backup.
As for the SHSHs, I have an MB 2G myself, and the SHSH is only 'soft', as in it's only in the software, for 4.0 and above, and is not required for 3.1.3 and below, unlike later models which have the SHSH check built into the hardware.
iTunes 10.1 works fine for downgrading to 3.x firmware. If it is a MB model you should be able to go back to 3.1.3. That error you are getting is not normal for that, it is more an error that you have the wrong firmware. What is the file name of the firmware you downloaded?
