I have (2) iPod Touch devices, both 2G/3G models (Model MC086LL) that are currently on f/w 3.1.2 and jailbroken via Spirit. I've tried unsuccessfully to update to f/w 4.0.x (iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw) and 4.1.x (iPod2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw). Those IPSW files were downloaded from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download.
According to Cydia, I have SHSH on file for 3.1.2, 4.0, 4.0.2, and 4.1.
When I try to upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1, it fails with error code 13.
I've even tried to upgrade to 3.1.3 with no luck.
I've also seen an error that reads something like "this device doesn't qualify". I apologize for not remembering the exact wording. I think I get that when I try to update to 3.1.3 but I'm not positive at the moment.
I do NOT want a tethered jailbreak. The iPods belong to my son and my wife and if they power them off by mistake, they're somewhat stuck if they're not home or I'm not home.
Can anyone help ?
Anyone ? Should I look in the iPhone forum also ?

Since you have the SHSHs, simply download TinyUmbrella HERE (click this) (right panel on the page) then run the TSS server while shift+restoring to the stock fw of your choice. It shouldn't give you an error now.
Okay, Greenpois0n did it... Took 2-3 restarts of Cydia. It would launch, do something, then dump back to Springboard (?) like it was crashing. It's now updating Cydia files and the APT stuff, I think. Okay, looks like it's done as it's prompting me to reboot the iPod. Gonna unplug it and hope this is an un-tethered JB !!
