Default Upgrading jailbreak iPod touch 2g from 4.0.2 to 4.2

I jailbreak my iPod touch 2g sometime ago using cydia. It's currently on version 4.0.2. When I log into iTunes it's saying 4.2 is available however I keep on seeing that if I upgrade the jailbreak will be closed. Is it possible to upgrade to 4.2 and still be jailbroken. If yes how. If not am I stuck at 4.0.2

Then you are good. You can update to 4.2.1 then use redsnow 0.9.6b6 to jailbreak again once there.

lol, dont get me started on the Lakers.

Its pretty easy, Just update or restore to 4.2.1. Download the latest redsnow 0.9.6b6 from the dev team blog. Open redsnow, browse for the 4.2.1 firmware, say no to the new model question since you have MB model, then choose install cydia and follow the instructions for entering dfu.

I think all these hidden app issues you are having are related to whatever you may have previously had installed. You may want to do a fresh restore and setup as new. If you have any app data you need you can use juicephone or iphone backup extractor to save it.

Sounds like that's what I gotta do because even multitasking crashes the iPod. I had installed categories on the previous jailbreak and hid stuff looks like it's coming back to haunt

Yup categories will do that. The multitasking problem is not related though. There is a fix for that issue in one of these threads.

If you setup as new you should be fine to jailbreak. You may want to leave multitasking off though.
