I have 2 iPod's, both 2G running iOS 4.0. Both had Cydia installed. My daughter and wife selected the upgrade option within iTunes and the iPod's crashed. Neither one will turn on and when I plug them into my PC (Windows XP sp2), i get an "USB Device Not Recognized) error message. The only thing both iPod's had in common was Cydia. None will turn on now, iTunes doesn't detect them and neither does my PC. HELP!!! I'm just wondering if these things are bricks or if maybe I can replace a part to save them. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first time posting in a forum so if I didnt give any info needed for help, please let me know. Thx people.
A similar thing happen to me today, plug your iPod in and open iTunes (you will need the newest version) now make sure your device is turned off and plugged in, hold down the sleep button for 3 seconds continue holding the sleep button and hold down the home button for 10 seconds, now release the sleep button but keep the home button pressed for another 15 seconds. If done correctly iTunes should pop a window up saying something about recovery mode, ok this window now on the left side of iTunes it should say "iPod touch" click on it. Now it should give you the option to restore. Hit restore and let it load up this can take ages it will then start downloading iOS 4.2 to your device after this it will load it on to your iPod and hen reboot it, if all has gone correctly your iPod will be "unjailbroken" and working correctly. If your are planning to jailbreak your iPod again you should use the new redsn0w providing you have an iPod touch 2g as this is the only "unteatherd" jailbreak for 2g at the moment. Hope I helped and good luck
thx for the reply, im glad people actually read these things. I tried that numerous times already and itunes doesnt detect it. The weird thing is that everytime i do that, windows tells me the USB Device isnt recognized. Everytime. So im not sure if its a hardware issue, software or if the ipod is in some sort of OS lock or what. Thx again and if u have any more ideas, post'em.
