what generation of ipod and what firmware?

i think its 4th gen. if firmware is the version its on its 4.2.1

Alright, this is simple. For your firmware, go to the Settings app, then to general, then to about. Scroll down and you should see your firmware version. For your Model, If you got yours after September 2010, you have a 4th Generation. If it is between September 2009 and April 2010, if it is an 8GB, it is a 2nd Generation, MC Model. Try Greenpois0n.

i got it after sep 2010 and the firmware is 4.2.1 (8c148) i hope im lookin @ the right **** lol ty 4 ur help :P

On 4.2.1, use Redsn0w 0.9.6b6.

You'll have to plug it back into your computer every time you turn it off and back on though. You'll need to run redsn0w again and select "Just boot pwned now" or something like that phrase to get it to start up again.

try using jailbreakme.com on ur ipod touch

jailbreakme is only for firmwares up to 4.0.1, you cant have an untethered ipod touch 4g, i dont think

Correct, it is tethered for iPT 4g on 4.2.1
