Default iPod touch stuck at apple screen

I have a 2nd gen iPod touch that was jailbroken (jailbreakme.com) on 4.0. I went to "erase all content and settings" on the touch so I could sell. It locked up at the apple screen and I can't get iTunes to recognize. I've tried holding down the power/home button but it still doesn't see it. Please help.

Plug it in to the computer hold down home and power for 10 seconds release the power but continue holding home for about 10-15 seconds if that doesnt recoginzie it then you need to down load a tool like Tu to kick it out of recovery

No luck. I tried the power/home button again with no response. I downloaded tinyumbrella and it doesn't recognize it either. I can't power it down because it stays at the apple logo screen. I have to just let the battery die.

this happened to me the apple only i thought i had bricked my ipod.
i held both home & power (for like 15-20 secs until the screen went dark. then tried to restore in itunes. i got error #21. no good.

if you have edited your hosts file simply comment the cydia info out with a # at the beginning of that line. save and exit

I have a mac so the next step i did was download and stored itunes 10.1 locally on my computer.

    then i trashed itunes.app & AppleMobileDevice.kext and rebooted computer

    re-installed itunes 10.1

then i was able to bring my ipod back to factory settings.

    emptied trash

and took # away in hosts file so that i could start jailbreaking the ipod again

Well because your restoring it anyways you just need to put it back into DFU mode, and then restore it.

How do I put it back into DFU mode? I've tried the power button/home button trick and the pc won't recognize it. I tried tinyumbrella and it still isn't recognized. It is stuck on the apple screen with the loading circle. I can't turn it off, I have to let the battery die for the screen to go off
