i have an ipod touch 2g on 3.1.2 have jailbroke my phone using spirit and now cydia wont boot. if was were to jailbreak again with blackrain would that make cydia work? sorry if its a silly question

No that wouldnt work, and might make it go into boot loop.

so i should shift and restore in itunes to 3.1.2. does it matter what version of itunes i have, ie 10 and then should i restore from backup to get my apps and games back,then jailbreak, thanks

Yup thats sounds right, although you may want to think about setting it up as new as restoring from backup could bring back the problem. I would say try restoring from backup first and see if you still have the issue.

That's error is when you don't have SHSH. What model iPod touch 2g do you have?

He could update and use redsn0w but it would be a tethered jailbreak. Do you know what SHSH you have for your iPod?

Neither geohot or Chronic Dev Team have added support for iPod Touch 2G or iPhone 3G for their respective jailbreaks. Geohot didnt see the need because of redsn0w and last I saw Chronic Dev Blog still said "soon" for iPod Touch 2G support: greenpois0n – Initial Release Chronic Dev Blog

His best shot for a untethered jailbreak is to see what SHSH he has, hopefully he has at least 4.0.1 SHSH so then he can use tiny umbrella to restore and jailbreak with jailbreakme.com.

Download the latest tiny umbrella: The Firmware Umbrella
Run it, plug in your device and press Save my SHSH and see what SHSH it can pull from cydia. You might get lucky.

tried it. seem to go on forever and nothing was happening so i dont think it was working. i guess i,m stuck
