iPod WILL NOT Restore

I have an ipod touch 2g non mc model on 3.1.2. I used snowbreeze to make a custom firmware and when i try to shift click restore in itunes, it keeps saying the server is down. So i was gonna just restore it to 4.0 and jaolbreak it afterwards. So i did that and it goes through the whole restore process and right at the end, it hits me with iPod cannot be restored, an unkown error has occured (17). Now my ipod will not exit recovery or dfu mode and it will not even restore to official 4.1 firmware! Ive tried to use ireb to get it out of recovery mode, doesnt work. Ive tried to re-restore it several times and get the same errors. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated
