09-21-2010, 11:04 AM #1Downgrade problem - Cydia / SHSH / Tiny Umbrella
I got sent an iPod touch (2g) today.
As I already have an iPhone I thought I'd jailbreak it etc.
When I did it it was on firmware 3.1.1, and I made sure I did the Cydia 'Make My Life Easier' option once it was Jailbroken.
I was having issues getting the backgrounder app to work, so thought I'd restore it back to un-jailbroken and then try it again.
However, I must of clicked on update instead of restore as I'm now on 4.1.
I got hold of TinyUmbrella to check the shsh file, and even though I was on 3.1.whatever when I jailbroke it and 'made my life easier' TinyUmbrella tells me:
09/21/2010 17:59:32.971 iPod2G 4.1 (8B117)-*************
09/21/2010 17:59:32.983 Devices with ECIDs matching the above AND restoring to the exact firmware version listed above will succeed!
If I try and search for shsh under firmware 3.1.* nothing comes back
If I was on 3.1.whatever when I connected to Cydia, how come it's now showing as 4.1?

You can only get SHSH for a certain firmware if Apple is still signing that firmware. it does not matter if you are on it or not. Currently Apple is only signing 4.1 so that is the only SHSH you can get.
