I believe apple put in an anti downgrading code into 4.1, and the only way to downgrade is through ssh.

I have a similar question.
I am a real noob to this and have read that you can't jailbreak a 4.1 ipod, my ipod recently had a problem with the screen and I had to send it off to repair, to cut a long story short it wasn't repaired but I found a fix for the screen not responding and had to restore the ipod which restored it with 4.1 aghhhhh!
I now have an Ipod Touch 3g MC with 4.1, so my question is will there ever be a way of jailbreaking this ipod, is it a matter of just waiting or will I be waiting forever?
BTW as I said I'm a real noob but great site I hope to use it to help me on other pods I own.

SSH refers to secure shell and is a way to access your ipod firmware. In there you can fiddle with the programing to allow it to downgrade. It is somewhat technical, but they have the steps if you google "downgrade from 4.1" Good luck with it.
P.S. - They will have a 4.1 jailbreak coming out, it just hasn't been released yet. Be patient and it will come.
