Spirit is almost ALMOSTidentical to blackra1n; but is faster and is untethered. Also works for all iDevices and you can get Rock through Cydia. But if I were you I would get Cydia.

You need the latest firmwares though. Any iDevice will work on it.

I tried it on 3.1.3 and got Cydia. However, it gives me an error when I try to install winterboard. Any ideas?

Humm I don't know I did it on like 19 iPod touchs and they all where upgraded to 3.1.3

Make sure the iPod is at least 3.1 in order for spirit to work!
