Can I jailbreak an iPod Touch (MC) that's at 3.1.2

Not sure really of the difference between the Touch 2G and 3G, this is an 8GB MC086BT model.

I tried with redsn0w 0.9.4, went through and selected my 3.1.2 IPSW, in the options it gave me the 'Cydia', 'Verbose Boot', Custom Logos' options but not 'Reboot Tethered' which I thought it should if it were a touch 3G.

When I click next to jailbreak and hold all the combinations of home/power it uploads twice then freezes on 'waiting for reboot'. I figured that if I put the iPod into recovery mode at this point (rather than DFU) it will continue to upload everything and redsn0w gives me the message that everything is done and it will complete on the iPod but it just stays at the black screen with the backlight on. If I reboot it after that it will turn on normally but isn't jailbroken.. no cydia or anything.


I haven't had much experience jailbreaking iPods, only phones so I really don't know what is or isn't possible. Thanks

Yes, it's fine to try to Jailbreak it and it should work. I tried with Redsn0w but mine didn't work either so I tried blackweather and it worked fine - fantastic but it was tethered (you cannot get untethered for iPod Touch 3.1.2).

Try this and it should work hopefully! If you get the iTunes logo after doing this, run Blackra1n again!

is it possible to just download 3.1.2 and downgrade my 2G Ipod touch MC to 3.1.2 from 3.1.3?

Yes you can jailbreak a 3.1.2
Use blackra1n RC3 to do the jailbreak though.

Be minded the MC model is a tethered jailbreak. This means if you turn off, hard reboot, or your battery dies, You much run blackra1n again otherwise it will not boot up.(and no, this is not other jailbreak is not tethered)

Blackra1n is the best/easiest jailbreak for 3.1.2 and under
