Hi guys.
I have this 16 gb 1G iTouch. And I had it jailbroken and working well.
So I then decided to do the system restore option under the settings applet of the iTouch. And that started out ok, the white progress bar under the apple logo was maybe at 5% and then I accidentally did a hard reset (holding down the home and power button for 10 seconds)...
Now, when I try to boot it up, the white apple logo shows for maybe half a minute and then dissappears. That's all that ever happens, no matter how many times I try and start the device.
Restore. Try Restore mode first (hold the Home button till an image comes up), if that can't do it try DFU mode (hold Home and Power for 10 seconds exactly, then release Power but hold onto Home until it is detected by the computer, the screen should be black).
Thanks, that started something. When I followed your instructions for dfu mode, everything seemed to work ok, except that the screen wasn't blank, it was a light gray. Weird...
Anyways, the computer didn't recognize it until I unplugged it and plugged it back in a second time. Then iTunes popped up asking me if I wanted to restore an unrecognized iPod. When I selected yes, it commenced to download the iPhone OS 3.1. I have 3.0 on here. Also kinda weird. I thought they were charging for the update.
Anyways, I'll report back after the restore finishes. Then I'll have to try a rejailbreak.
So now it's working great. Thanks for your help guys!
Has anyone else had this happen to them? If not, I should post a tutorial somewhere here on how to get a free upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1.
Because that's exactly what happened to me. I thought apple was charging $10 for the upgrade, but when I had it restore my unreadable iTouch, it restored it to 3.1 which I never had and never paid for.
