Can you recover previously jailbroken space?

I notice anytime I update or in my most recent case downgrade I have less and less memory to start with despite "Other" being the same.

Is there anyway to recover this previously occupied space. Because I have a 8GB and is starting at as low as 6.8GB now, which is fairly problematic.

Thanks for any answers.

Have you done a restore? Or are you updating? Try restore with the default IPSW and the re-jailbreak.

Restore as a New iPhone but make sure you back all your stuff up first

Out of curiosity, I recently upgraded to 3.0, jailbroke, now I have restored to 2.2.1 and then jailbroke. Wouldn't that 2.2.1 restore be the equivalent of your suggestions? or does it not count as a proper restore because I had to DFU?
