Jailbreaking iPod Touch 2G on a PC
This is a complete guide to Jailbreaking the 2nd Genereation iPod Touch.
I've updated it for the completely untethered jailbreak but left the old tutorial up for anyone who may want to read it for whatever reason.
I did not make any of the programs in this tutorial I simply made a tutorial because I myself had trouble finding one so here it is.
UNTETHERED
It's rather simple but you have to pay close attention to what you are doing.
Note: To do this you will need Winrar.
First you will need a clean 2.2.1 Firmware file which you can get from here:Fresh Firmware!
Then you will need the Jailbreaking application which you can get from here
here
or here
sorry but I don't usually upload files like this so I don't know which sites are best so I uploaded the file to a few.
Once you've done all that follow these instructions which I've also included in the download.
1. Rename the 2.2.1 ipsw to OriginalFW.ipsw and place it in /IPSW
2. Run IPSW.bat (It will take a while)
3. (The Hard Part)
a. Open up Winrar and choose "file" the "add archive" and choose the "JB.ipsw" file
b. Go into Firmwareall_flashall_flash.n72ap.production (note: you may have to look for it, it's under "firmware" then "all_flash")
c. Delete the LLB file.(optional since it will be replaced by the new one when you drag and drop it into the folder)
d. Replace (by dragging) with the LLB file that's in the same folder as the jb.ipsw.
e. Exit, continue to step 4
(You can start at step four from here on out everytime you Jailbreak a new iPod or re-Jailbreak)
4. Place your iPod Touch 2G into DFU mode*, plug it in and run RUNME.exe
5. Shift + Restore to JB.ipsw in iTunes and your done.
* If you don't know how to enter DFU mode then just hold the power and home button and listen for a chime sound then once you hear it let go of the power button until you hear another chime sound, or google it.
I hope this was helpful if you have any questions post them here.
TETHERED
You are going to need the following files:
JailBreak Helper
that is the application to help you with the jailbreak
I did not make it I just know how to use it
make sure you save it to your desktop
second you will need a clean 2.2.1 firmware package
get it here Fresh Firmware!
put it into the "Cyw00d_V17" folder on your desktop
IF YOU ARE USING VISTA:
after you download the Jailbreak Helper and before you do anything else go to the "Install" folder right click on libusb and go to properties click the "compatibility" tab and check the "Run in compatibility mode" box
like this

Now run the Jailbreaker Helper program and follow the instructions on the screen
when you get to step two it will ask you to select your clean firmware package be sure to highlight the clean firmware you place in the Cyw00d folder the build the ispw. it will take a little bit
After words proceed through the step by step when asked to put it in DFU mode you can do it as it says or instead of counting just hold the power and home button and listen for a chime sound then once you hear it let go of the power button until you hear another chime sound
i find this easier then counting because the amount of time seems different everytime for me it also seems to work better with iTunes closed
when you are asked to open iTunes and restore to the Patched firmware it will be in the Cyw00d folder and to load it just be sure youre holding shift when you click the restore button in iTunes
and finally when you have completed all the steps in the Helper you may have to configure your iPod in iTunes before you can use it and youre done!
NOTE this is a tethered jailbreak still so you will have to repeat steps 5 through 7 everytime you turn your iPod completely off or when it dies, this includes when you install winterboard and you have to reboot your device
that should be about it
again i didnt makes this GUI i simply know how to use it and would like to answer other peoples questions so if you need any help just post it hereLast edited by wo0ts; 04-18-2009 at 12:52 PM. Reason: Typos
