The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602). OR
The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).
Those are the 2 alerts that come up when trying to downgrade to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. It looks like it is going to work but when iTunes is done "extracting software" it boots my iTouch off iTunes and goes back to my library. with the alert The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).
When I upgrade to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 it works fine. What is the problem?
The wierd thing is, I used to be able to downgrade to 1.1.1, i jailbroke, then i tried to install 1.1.3 again so I could get more apps, cuz that is how I thought it worked...so now Installer is gone and I can't downgrade.
I work off of Windows Vista, 16GB iTouch

Download iPHUC and make sure your have the 1.1.1 firmware downloaded, if you don't have 1.1.1 firmware, there is a read me file in the iPHUC folder that tells you were to get it, if you can't find iPHUC I will try to find a link for you.

Sounds like either the ipod wasnt completely in recovery mode when you tried to downgrade that is when you'll get that message.

When you get that message, Disconnect your ipod, close itunes, and reconnect your ipod, in that order. Then just do the restore over again.

I have the same problem I put my iPod in recovery mode and went in to iTunes and shift clicked to restore to 1.1.2. I got the error (1). The only reason I'm trying to get to 1.1.2 is because of the "soft upgrade" to 1.1.4 jailbreak i found on ******************** .... Hmm, I think I might have the firmware for iPhone, but if that wasn't the case, is my iPod just totally f*cked up..?

Anyone have the problem after the 1602 error where the "connect to itunes" logo comes up but wont be recognized no matter what? Re-installed itunes, put touch in DFU put touch in recovery, and nothing now recognizes it. What do i do? I was just performing a restore on my itouch and this happened.
Anyone at all have a suggestion?Last edited by Dator; 03-10-2008 at 09:06 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I was getting the same message (1602) with my touch... I uninstalled all I tunes but their must be registry settings to delete also....
I used a different computer and was able to down grade to 1.1.1
And then went back and restored from first computer and all my email and calendar and notes were saved and restored )Last edited by rust; 04-11-2008 at 10:04 PM.

EASY FIX: hold the power/lock and home buttpn until the iTunes logo appears. It puts it in DFU mode, which you need it in.
